Mahatma Gandhi. Originally it was the name of a historic ghat of

This memorial commemorates the death of 70,000 Indian
soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War and the
Afghan Wars. The first foundation of this heroic memorial was

experience its enigma. Next destination is the President's
House or Rashtrapati Bhawan. Initially, it was the official
residence of the Viceroy of India and has now become the official home of the President of India. Its
construction began in 1912 and was completed in 1929. The main responsibility for its architecture was

on British architect Edwin Landseer Lutyens.

Your tour will continue followed by visit of the majestic Qutub Minar, the highest tower in India. The
foundations of this minaret was laid, quite back in 1199 AD, by the
Turkic King Qutbu'd-Din Aibak. Made up of marble and red
sandstone, the Qutub Minar is included in the list of UNESCO world
heritage sites. The different sections of Qutub Minar carry varied
inscriptions written in Nagari and Parso-Arabic dialect. Next is Lotus
Temple, an important Baháí House of Worship. Belonging to the
Expressionist Style of architecture, the construction of this temple
was finished by 1986. The architect Furiburz Sabha had envisioned
this temple to reflect the unity of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and
Jainism. This Lotus temple is closed on Mondays. The bright white
marble shrine is surrounded by artistically landscaped lawns, gardens
and pathways with beautifully designed balustrades. It has nine pools
with stairs and bridges.
And at last but not the least, the tour will conclude by visiting the mesmerizing Akshardham Temple
(closed on Monday), Akshardham is a Hindu temple complex in Delhi, India. Also referred to as Delhi
Akshardham or Swaminarayan Akshardham, the complex displays millennia of traditional Hindu and

77 km from Indore, the name Omkareshwar derives from the word Om, which signifies the most
sacred Hindu symbol. Omkareshwar, the sacred island, shaped like the holiest of all Hindu symbols,
'Om', has drawn to it hundreds of generations of pilgrims. Here, at the confluence of the rivers
Narmada and Kaveri, the devout gather to kneel before the Jyotirlinga (one of the twelve jyotirlingas
throughout India) at the temple of Shri Omkar Mandhata. And here, as in so many of Madhya
Pradesh's sacred shrines, the works of Nature complement those of man to provide a setting awe-
inspiring in its magnificence.
Maheshwar Temple is a popular religious centre situated in Sungra of the Kinnaur District. The
temple is famous for its marvellous wood panels on either side.
The courtyard of the temple and other panels is admirably carved
and portray the artistic excellence of people of the bygone era.
The profoundly cut images of different Hindu deities are a delight
for individuals interested in archaeology. The eastern wall of the
temple displays different avatars of Hindu Lord Vishnu and Hindu
zodiac signs. The friezes on the lower end of the roof also look
mesmerizing. There is also an ancient eighth century stone shrine
located in proximity to the doorway of the temple. According to
folklore, Lord Sungra Maheshwar was once attacked by Bhima, a
mythological character from the Indian epic, the Mahabharata.
Legend has it that Bhima threw a huge boulder at the temple from the top of a mountain situated
across the river Sutlej. Lord Maheshwar then threw the boulder to another side, which now rests on
the road situated in proximity to the temple.
